Tonsils are gone!!!

I apologize for not posting in so long. It's been a long couple of weeks for us here. Let's start off with the big day!!!
Kayla went on September 19th to get her tonsils and adenoids removed because she snored slightly in her sleep and I didn't want it being an issue when she got older. Plus I hear it helps with less sore throats. We'll see if that's true or not.

While waiting for her turn in surgery, Kayla got to decorate her mask with stickers and chap stick. Now some of you are going "Why did she decorate it with chap stick?" I asked myself the same question. So here's the answer. What the nurses do is give the child some Lip Smackers chap stick that have different fun smells and you smear it on the inside of the mask and that's the smell you'll smell while going to sleep before surgery. Kayla chose a banana type smell. It smelled really good even though I don't like bananas.(Yes I know, I'm weird.) She also chose to color a picture while waiting. She never finished it though. She used gel pens to decorate it.
We ended up getting pushed back and they were also behind, so we got to enjoy 3 movies!!! We watched half of Zootopia, The Princess and the Frog, and Frozen(can't we just let it go already?) Not long after Frozen ended, Kayla's Dr finally came to talk with us and then she was heading off to surgery. Kayla got a little upset when it was time to go but I told her it would all be okay and she would be asleep. The nurse even said she would play whatever music Kayla asked for. Kayla requested Disney music. I love the nurses at Rainbows!
Surgery took a couple of hours with getting her to sleep, then the actual surgery, then waking up a little before we could go back. We were given a pager to let us know when surgery was done. I felt all 90's with it.

I was so relieved when we could finally go back and see her. There was a couple of times she took these big gasps of air that scared the crap outta me. The nurse assured me it was okay though. Her throat isn't used to so much more space. She was excited to eat a Popsicle. She ate 2 of them!

We were finally cleared to go home after 3:30. They gave us a sick bag just in case. She didn't need it though. She was fine.
This is what she spent a majority of the next 24 hours doing. I made sure she drank as much as possible. She was getting pretty annoyed with me telling her to drink all the time, but it's what mom's do. Didn't want her getting dehydrated and ending back in the hospital.
A few days after surgery, I got Kayla a mermaid blanket. She enjoyed it a lot. She was basically being a mermaid this entire time being home. She's barely spoken at all, so she was Ariel and I guess the evil sea witch stole her voice. She's finally talking more today though.

Last weekend I had dealt with some tooth pain and ended up getting 3 teeth pulled. I'm still dealing with phantom pain from time to time but I'm glad that I got it taken care of. It was an interesting weekend having both me and Kayla on a soft food diet. Joey ate whatever and Emma and Alex ate their usual hot dogs
Today after having breakfast, we got out of the house for a little bit before we had to get Emma from school. We went shopping for some milk and cookies. I also got Emma an outfit for her very 1st picture day next week.(sorry, no spoilers)

We checked out some ideas for Christmas gifts and had fun looking at Christmas decorations. I really liked the Minion. It was huge! After we got Emma from school, I had a fun surprise for the kids!

We spent some time at the Greater Cleveland Aquarium. We haven't been there all summer, so we were due for a visit. It doesn't take long to walk through. Maybe 45 minutes if that. After the trip to the aquarium, we headed back home for a little while.

Kayla is heading back to school on Monday and I can not wait!!! Yes it makes my mornings a little more hectic, but at least I get my hour with Alex back.

well it's been quite a busy week for us. Emma finally went back to Physical Therapy on Monday. She did amazing too!! She did some steps and she was riding a bike(with a little help)
I can't wait for the next time we have therapy. Maybe she will do better. Her therapist also asked if we had gotten Emma's canes in yet. I'm like nope. No phone cal yet. She wants Emma to be able to practice using them at home so she can get better with them.

Wednesday was a busy day for us. Kayla only had half day of school since in the evening it was Open House. Emma still had her usual half day hours so hers didn't get messed up. I spent the morning running around getting the girls to school and picking them up. Kayla had counseling after school as well. We're not going to see Robin until the first week of October now since Kayla gets surgery this coming up week and the week after Robin will be on vacation. When we go back to see her, she said we would sit and discus our next step which could mean we are done doing the counseling or we may have one more visit. Kayla's "problems" have been getting so much better. So we'll see how things go if we do stop doing counseling.

Wednesday evening the girls had open house at their schools. We went to Kayla's school first. Her teachers told us she's doing great and she's so quiet in class. I'm like well where's that quiet child at home??? She got her progress report which doesn't have actual grades on it like a report card. She is doing well though

We were looking through her graded papers and we had to laugh at one of them.

The kids had to read the little story on the worksheet, then answer the questions on the other side. Well Kayla decided to be a smart ass on one question and write "I don't know" when the answer was on the back of the worksheet. Me and Joey laughed so hard about that.

After Kayla's open house, we headed over to Emma's school. We ended up not going because there was nowhere to park at all. Even on the street. I'm like we get updates on her everyday, so I wasn't majorly concerned with going to the open house for her.

Thursday, Emma brought home some papers for me to fill out and a little homework assignment. I'm like homework??? She's in preschool! It's something that will help her out though.

We have to lay the flashcards out in front of her and help her to identify her name. Once she has her name down, we can let her figure out her classmates names.

Let's rewind a bit now. On Tuesday I had finally got the phone call for Emma's canes. They came in! A day after therapy but that's okay. So we made an appointment to pick them up on Friday. Friday came around and we went up after taking Kayla to school since Emma didn't have school Friday.

She was styling with her new canes. Yes, they are hot pink! They are awesome looking. I was a little worried she might have some trouble with the base being very wide but.....
It's going to take some time for her to master these canes like she has mastered her walker. I can't wait when she finally does get the hang of things.

Next week we have a busy first two days. On Monday, we're seeing Dr. Hardesty who is Emma's Orthopaedic doctor. Her PT wanted us to make an appointment because she was a little concerned with Emma's right knee. She suggested maybe getting an athletic sleeve for her knee so she doesn't twerk it or injure it in any way. So I had the guy measure Emma's leg on Friday so we didn't have to make another trip out there to just get measured. We requested a pink one. He said to just give the script to the person who will be there on Monday! Tuesday is tonsil surgery for Kayla. That's going to be a long day! Wish us luck then!

Labor Day fun

Well, today was Labor Day in the US. Most people get the day off from work and usually do cookouts. Originally I wasn't going to do anything. I did a lot of cleaning this morning. This afternoon, Alex went to take a nap and I thought Emma was as well. Emma ended up sneaking back out of her bed. Darn kids. Alex stayed asleep though. So since Alex wasn't feeling well, we went over to Joey's mom's for a cook out. Alex stayed home with grandma. So it was me, Joey, Kayla, and Emma.
Emma had a blast playing with everyone. She was being Chauffeured around in the pink Barbie jeep. She was in love with it. So now I'll probably have to invest in one for her and her siblings.
Kayla played catch with her cousins Nathan and Joe Jr. She also played with her friend from school, Trinity(I didn't get a pic of the two). Kayla always hates leaving when e have a fun day like this but I'm sure we'll have another one before the weather gets too cold.

Joey and I played a couple of games of corn hole. No one kept score so I don't know who won. It was a fun evening with a lot of laughs. School tomorrow for the girls. Hope they sleep good tonight with the incoming storms rolling in.
